A full-mouth rehabilitation is essentially treatment of the entire mouth to restore proper function and establish ideal aesthetics. Such treatment most commonly involves crowns, bridges and/or implants and is indicated where numerous teeth are compromised due to excessive wear, parafunction like grinding of the teeth, abundant old restorative work, incorrect alignment, and/or grossly compromised aesthetics.
Oral rehabilitation may also be indicated to re-stabilise the occlusion when the bite has collapsed due to lost teeth or excessive wear. In such cases the patient bites too deeply or may have a functional lock or dysfunctional slides, placing the health of the jaw joints and the remaining teeth are at risk. With full oral rehabilitation, the heights and shapes of all the teeth are corrected to re-establish proper function. In Yonge & St. Clair Prosthodontic Centre, we can totally rejuvenate your mouth, creating a healthy, beautiful smile in as few as two visits. This process is so successful that others cannot distinguish the real teeth from the restored teeth.
Dr. Babak Shokati has successfully performed full-mouth rehabilitation for many patients with worn and fratured teeth in Yonge & St. Clair Prosthodontic Cetre. He is experienced in handling extensive cases and uses an excellent lab to make sure that the work you have done is not only strong and durable, but also looks aesthetic and natural. As a university professor and an educator, he is commited to keep himself up-to-date with the latest findings in the field of dental research and to use the most advanced and scintific approaches in dental technology.
How do I know whether I am a candidate for full-mouth rehabilitation?
If your teeth appear short and worn, or completely overlap your bottom teeth, or if you experience pain in the jaw joint, headaches, back pain, muscle tenderness or clicking or popping of the jaw, then you should consider this procedure. Having a beautiful smile is important and this procedure will give you that, along with alleviating the cause of the problem.
What happens during the office visits?
Full-mouth rehabilitation involves a preparation appointment and a seating appointment. During the preparation appointment, Dr. Shokati will remove all of your old restorations and any decay that has occurred. Then, impressions of the underlying healthy tooth structure are made and temporary teeth are made. These temporaries are worn until the final appointment, about three weeks later. At the seating appointment, your temporaries are removed and the final restorations are placed, creating the gorgeous, rehabilitated smile you never thought you could have!
